I love Sabrina's pose here! (We weren't allowed to take a photo of the Easter Bunny, we'll scan a copy on eventually....

Finally.....The Twins are THREE!!!!

Hanging out with dad, eating!A princess cake for me?Olivia was a little more excited then Sabrina!

The girls are three. Olivia is so grown up now. I swear she turned three and she is going on five! She is potty trained, counting, singing, talking really well, sharing things, I am so amazed. Sabrina is growing up fast too, just not as quickly as Olivia. I think too, since she's a little smaller then Olivia, she gets treated like the baby more. I don't know, but I love them and I am a little sad to see them grow up. I am looking forward to the bizarre and strange adventures that they will take us on!

The girls at Disney on Ice!

Sabrina intently watching....Mommy hating her picture taken when she doesn't know!!!!!!

Overly excited Olivia!

Sisters, Sisters....Why does mommy always ask us to pose like this?

Intermission!

They twins totally were star struck, watching Disney on Ice! It was amazing to see their favorite show, Little Mermaid come to life before their eyes. There jaws were dropped most of the performance. On the way out of the arena, I asked Olivia what her favorite part was. I wish I had the camera rolling, she stopped and did a fancy ice skating move in the midst of streams of people pouring out of the arena. It was precious! This was the move she was attempting to do on dry land:

The twins' and fun times.

The top pictures are from the twins first birthday the went for someone other then family. They went to a place called "Jungle Jim's". They had a blast and wore mommie and daddy out! The bottom two pictures are from our trip to the mall with Chrissy. They had a blast riding the merry-go-round!

Back for now!

I have no clue what I had, but I do not wish it on my worst enemy! I was miserable for over a week! Luckily I started feeling better this Saturday morning!

I have tons of pictures to upload, but it'll probably be toward the middle of the week, before I have a chance to do it. I have a lot of work to catch up.

Saturday we took the twins to a birthday party at Jungle Jim's. They loved going on ride after ride. I on the other hand, weak still from my flu bug, felt a wee bit nauseous...

Sunday the girls went and saw Disney on Ice. They loved it. I loved watching their reaction to the show.

I promise more later.............

Dedicated to my Uncle Bruce, The First Part Anyways!

I wanted to post yesterday, but work and life did not permit. Yesterday was a Math lovers special day. It was square root day. 3-3-09. The next one won't be until 4-4-16. I actually considered waiting to get married until yesterday, but Tuesdays are just hard days....

I almost lost Olivia, again. I think the most scariest thing for a mother to do is allow her kids to grow up. Olivia is almost three and wants Independence. I don't know why, but she is very insistent on this. She loves to walk in front of me. The other night Jonathan and I took Olivia shopping with us. She wanted to walk, and since I had just the one child with me and two adults, I figured, why not? She would run a ways up ahead, but always stopped when I said stop. She'd wait until I said go and take off again. She was listening so well.

When we shop we usually have two carts, one for each girl and parent. We play hide and seek in between the aisles. It actually quite fun, especially in a place like Walmart. This trip we were playing it, but Olivia was next to me the whole time. We "found" missing daddy, and I reached up to grab some frozen veggies, thinking she was with the new "found" daddy. I turned back to the cart, and he was there, but no Olivia.

We split in opposite directions and started looking in aisles. Through each break in the aisle, we could each see the panicked face. I was getting more frantic by the second. My search took to a cashier. I explained that my two-year old was missing. She said there was nothing she could do! I started walking to the other side of the store, where customer service was. I think you could actually see my heart pounding out of my chest. I finally spotted an employee with a walkie-talkie and told her my situation. She immediately issued a code "Adam" and sent two employees to man the exits. Nobody was to leave the store with a two-year old child.

My arms were covered in goose bumps, I couldn't swallow, tears were rolling down my cheeks. I lost my basket somewhere, and I just stood there. I didn't know where to go, where to look, I myself was lost. I just kept praying that she was okay and that she would be found.

While all this was going on I lost Jonathan. After a couple of minutes, which seemed like hours, Jonathan came toward me holding Olivia. The tears of relief and joy ran down my face. I could finally breathe.

Olivia had been so caught up in our game of hide and seek, she wandered into the back stocking room. I have no clue how she got past all the employees there, but I am so grateful she was safe and sound. I think I'll keep her in the cart a little longer...........

Monday Morning

So Olivia has taken to potty training!!! Yeah, I mean she hardly has accidents at all. We are so proud of her! All it took was princess underwear, and my little pony underwear, and Elmo underwear.....Who knew? She like to tease us though. In the car ride to daycare in the morning, she says "I need to go potty." I ask her if she can wait and she nods her head yes. Then she lifts up her legs, as if she ready to give birth and makes a pisssss noise. She thinks she pretty funny....so do we, although we try not to show it.

Sabrina still has no desire to go potty in the potty, but she loves to try and wear underwear over her diaper. I think we'll try again in a couple of weeks.

This Weekend Chrissy came up and hung out. We took the twins shopping at the mall for over three hours! Believe it or not, they were so could. Sabrina even fell asleep in the stroller. Olivia went potty three times! The were so good I let them ride the carousal at the mall. I have pictures, but left the adapter at home.

Andrew's birthday was on Sunday. He is now nine years old! Happy Birthday to him. We are celebrating next weekend, since he was at his dad's this weekend.

Look alikes....

Can you tell the difference? See the Sleeping Beauty Dress and Olivia's Princess shirt?

Look how similar the penguin's nose is to Sabrina's swollen post-op nose........(I know her face looks dirty, it's blood residue from the drainage of her nose.)

Potty Training....

We've been working with the girls for over a year, but they just are not quite ready to be potty trained. However occasionally they do sit on the potty and pose for funny pictures. Sabrina attempting to go potty......

Sabrina again.....

Olivia really working it........
Olivia trying again........
Olivia did finally manage to go yesterday in the toilet! I am so proud. *Sniff* I can't wait till there isn't a need for diapers anymore.

The Aftermath

The honeymoon was great! It started off a little rocky....We checked in to the hotel, and the room did not meet the expectations of the description online. They had all the jacuzzi suites filled that night, but moved us into one the next day. I guess some of the luck of Friday the Thirteen showed up.

After we got that all worked out, we had a great time. We even checked out the Evanston Museum. It was fun to be a couple without kids for a couple of days.

We even went to Walmart to pick up a few forgotten items. Johnathan assumed he had his wallet, only to find out that he somehow picked up my deodorant instead.....That gave us a laugh for a while.

When we got back into town, responsibilities took over and we found ourselves in the IHC instacare with the twins. Olivia has bronchitis and Sabrina has yet another ear infection! They are still full of activity and now antibiotics.

Thank you for all the well wishes and congratulations. We are truly happy together and look forward to the years to come.

Rewind in Time

My daughter RoseMarie, just had the class. You all know that "special" class in or around 6th grade. If you don't then maybe you had the "talk" with one of your parents, hopefully some point in your life. If you haven't, and you've reached adulthood, email me and I explain that women and men are different.

Anyways, back to the point of this.

RoseMarie received the assorted bag of goodies from the class, she has left it in the car for several days now. Yesterday the twins found it and started pulling things out....

Rewind!

I was about 13 yrs old and we were having some kind of meeting at our house. I think it was for a church talent show or something like that. P. was my younger brother and about three years old. He came in the living room and said he had "presents" for everyone. He started handing out maxi pads to everyone. I about died of embarrassment! All these friends of mine, boys included received a nicely wrapped "present".

Fast Forward!

The vivid memory and embarrassment quickly came into view as I watched the girls wave tampons to passing cars. My daughter seems to be unfazed by this chain of events! Who knows maybe my brother scarred me for life?

Calling 911

I need help!

This last week we have had an Arctic chill in the Mornings and Evenings. This results in making my body ache and become stiff at night and mornings. Johnathan has been such a dear and puts the girls to bed for me.

He does it all, read stories, get them drinks, and say prayers. However than it is a battle for hours before they crash. We've stop watching TV an hour before bedtime, eat an earlier dinner, warmed milk, but we're running out of options.

To top it all off, they wake in the middle of the night. I am at the point of just locking in their room! The problem is, I am afraid one of them will get hurt. We've moved their clothes out, put a lock on the fridge, aaaaaaaaaaah!

They are almost three. This means, they will find any possible way to get in to what ever they can!

Up above the fridge, no problem. We'll just move a chair like so, working together, put another on the counter and voila! We have a month's worth of cereal on the floor. Don't like the nice shiny black microwave? No problem! Mom put some blue paint up on top of the medicine cupboard and it's 2:00 in the morning, so I'll surprise her. Not only will I paint the microwave blue, but I'll add a nice blue decor to the cupboards, walls and bathroom. Mom was able to find which of us twins were behind the wonderful paint job. It was quite surprisingly easy! See, one of us girls woke up the next day with blue hair, a blue face, and blue hands! Funny though, I was the one feeling blue.

So please, please help me come up with some non child abuse methods. We have already discussed duct taping them to the beds, handcuffing and cutting arms off!

Mischeif, Mister and another name I can't think off,--Oh yeah! Midget.

Isn't he cute? The girls just adore him and he lets them! They'll put him in the stroller, give him bottles, and hug him and squeeze him forever and ever and ever!

I did it!

That's right, I did the first big scary task at hand! RoseMarie went to her first Young Women activity, and I barely cried. Her friend in the ward even came and picked her up early and I was okay. She went ice skating, I sat home with Olivia, and Sabrina and Johnathan went shopping.

Although I was sick, I stayed up until she got home. She came into the house with flushed red cheeks, bright red nose, and wet pants. "I fell a hundred times," she said, grinning from ear to ear! "Did you have fun?" I asked. She nodded her head in excitement. "I wasn't the best skater, but Brooke fell more times then me!"

I am glad she has made some friends since the move. I am glad that she had fun. I knew she'd like Young Women's. Kids grow up so quickly!

A quick thanks to those who have been so willing to talk to Miss Olivia on the telephone. If I am talking on the phone, never fear Olivia is right there, "I want to talk to her!" She gets quite loud and demanding with this request. Grandma, Aunts and close friends don't mind, however I find that doctor offices and telemarketers tend to seem a little put out if I honor her request! Aunt Josie and Grandma Layton are her two favorite people to converse with. She loves to tell Aunt Josie to look at things that she sees. Last night she would have called her another three times had I let her. She would bring me the phone and say, "Josie, talk to her."

Something a Little Christmasy

Okay, I don't have a lot of paitence to do Gingerbread sculptures like my Sister Nancy, or baking talent like my sister Abra, however I do buy pre-made cookie dough and bake like crazy to do various cookie platters around Christmas time. One tradition in our house is that the kids get to make Christmas Tree center pieces for the trays. This year, we just made one for the kids to eat............. Above Sabrina's masterpiece....Below Olivia's
Olivia, demostrating why we choose not to use these as center pieces
Rosie bravely chased Andrew around to get a "green" picture.
Sabrina's half eaten masterpiece.
Matthew proudly showing off his Christmas Tree!
Look at how well they worked together!

Sister, Sisters

There were never such devoted sisters,
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir,

I’m there to keep my eye on her Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing

When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome
She wore the dress, and I stayed home

All kinds of weather, we stick together
The same in the rain and sun

Two different faces, but in tight places
We think and we act as one

Those who’ve seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister
And lord help the sister, who comes between me and my man

What's in a name?????

I am copying my mother's posting because I thought it would be fun and interesting.

I think being a parent, one of the hardest choices you have to decide on, is what to name your children. I know I thought of tons of names for my kids...RoseMarie was going to be Oscar Paul if she was a boy......Matthew, my ex wanted Rushin Orion. (I liked Rushin, but not with Orion, I thought it sounded like a comet.) Andrew would have been AnaClaire.....(I'm glad he was a boy, he would have been teased with AnaClaire) The twins, I was thinking of Montana and another state name.....hadn't made up my mind. This was just before Hannah Montana made it big, and I always joke that I could have named them Hannah and Montana..........

Sabrina the youngest twin. Her name means princess in English and from the border in Latin. I like to think princess with spice....that's her, diva through and through! Her name was ranked #196 the year she was born (2006).

Olivia the older twin. Her name means Olive Tree in Portuguese, Latin and Greek. In English her name comes from Olga, meaning holy in several different languages. I think I did could with Olivia, although I am not sure if she fits an olive tree........Her name though in 2006 was ranked #7. Poor girl, she'll be known as Olivia B. for the rest of her life!

Andrew in Latin means manly and the Greek meaning adds strong and courageous. This name is also one of Christ's Twelve Apostles names. My Andrew is definitely a manly boy, soon to be a man. In 2000 the year he was born it was ranked #10 and has not been ranked below #13 since.

Matthew is Hebrew for gift of God. What a wonderful name to have! All children are of course gifts of God, but to have that for a name? Matthew also is a book in the Bible and an Apostle. His name was ranked #3 in 1998, and since then it has never been higher than a 9.

RoseMarie you have to take the two names separately. If you take the name Rose, in Latin it means Flower (a Rose) and Marie a variation of the name Mary, in Hebrew means bitter. Flower Bitter.......I don't know does this describe RoseMarie? I know the flower part does.....good thing we call her Rosie most the time! In 1997 RoseMarie was ranked #2015.

Christina in Greek means Christ- Bearer. She is worthy of that name I do believe. The sight I look on, only went back as far as 1995, were it was ranked #68.

I can't find Kelline anywhere........

Kelli is the closest, but I'll make you go to my mom's blog to get that info, cause I am lazy like that.........but I'll provide the link: http://myrnalayton.blogspot.com/2008/12/whats-in-name.html

Weekend Ketchup

I like that title.........

Friday it snowed, horrible. I asked Johnathan to come and get me. He must truly love me, because he did. He drove for two hours (normally a 40 min drive), in the snow, picked me up, left his car at my work, then went and picked up my daughters. Since the weather was still bad, he endured shopping for boots with us, and then he took us out to Olive Garden! It was a nice treat considering the weather.

It still took over an hour to get home after all that. Yuck. I hate bad weather.

Saturday, we went to pick out my Christmas presents. 4 bar stools for our counter. Now we have a place to sit when we eat!!!! I'll post pictures, but I have to find this adapter thingy I lost from the trip.

Saturday night we headed into town to go see the lights. The girls were as good as two two-year olds could be. I was surprise that the stood still and watched the Nativity presentation so well. Sabrina was with me and loved following the lights around.

We then went inside the visitor center and took the walk way up to see Christ. I remember when I was a little girl and visited Temple Square. I use imagine that I truly was walking up to meet Christ. Today I felt the same peace inside when I walked there with the girls. Sabrina was frozen looking at Christ. Olivia pointed to a little picture she found of Christ and then to the Statue. It was such a amazing experience to see her related the two things together.

Johnathan, Rose, the twins and I then went to the Families are Forever Presentation, thanks to Sabrina's willingness to wander into rooms. It was a nice presentation, however due to the baby deaths in our ward (we had another lady give birth to a still born) and the recent death of Johnathan's Aunt, it was a little sad. I should say happy sad, if that makes any sense.

Then we went off to JB's. This will be the last year that we go to JB's. Bad food, worse service, not worth it.

Sunday was a peaceful productive day. We went to church. Rosie has started going to Young Womens. She's going to start playing basketball on Tuesday nights. Her first game will be Jan 22nd! I also found my hallway!!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend too. Merry Christmas!

Olivia

Olivia is the oldest of the twins, by one whole minute! Ollie is her nickname and she has the sweetest nature about her. She loves her blankets, always has one or two with her if she can.

Earlier this year we almost lost her! She spiked a high fever at daycare. I felt like a horrible mother, because when daycare called it was about 4:30 p.m. and I asked them if they could wait a half hour because then I could finish my shift at work. They insisted that I come immediately, so I did.

On the way to go pick her up I called the doctor to make an appointment so that hopefully she could return back to daycare the next day if her fever was down. (Daycare has a rule that if a child had a temperature over 102, they need a doctor release to return to daycare.) I have a great team of doctors; one of which agreed to stay later at the clinic to meet us.

I picked up Olivia and made our appointment. The symptoms a high fever that was about 104. The doctor started checking her joints, and when she checked the left hip, Olivia screamed a piercing scream! The doctor looked at me in complete bewilderment and told me to get her to the emergency as quickly as possible, something was wrong.

I gathered up the other girls and off we went to the emergency room. Olivia endured several tests, but with no conclusive results. They gave her some Ibuprofen and sent her home, with instructions to bathe her in cool water and give her fluids and Ibuprofen to reduce fever. They told if at any reason her fever was to spike and not respond to the Ibuprofen to bring her back.

We got home late that night. I didn't get much sleep, because Olivia didn't get much sleep. Around 7 a.m. I checked her temperature. It was 104.2 degrees! I gave her some Ibuprofen, got the other girls ready for the day, and checked it again. In one hour it dropped to 104.

I was pretty concerned, so I took her back to the E.R. On the way, I picked up my best friend for support and continued up to the hospital. We ended getting rear ended and finished the ride up there by ambulance.

The doctor checked her out again and informed me that she did have RSV. That isn't so scary for a child that was almost two, and didn't really explain the high fevers. We were getting ready to leave when the doctor came in with a pretty large needle and a lab tech. He told me that something weird came back in Olivia's blood work. Weird? I requested more information. The doctor explained that Olivia's blood had some bacteria in it. That's not normal, but many times there is contamination that occurs. They wanted to draw some more blood and do the test again. Just in case there really was bacteria, he wanted to start her on some heavy duty antibiotics, hence the large needle.

We were then sent home.

Early the next morning, I received a call from the doctor. It went something like this:

"Are you Olivia's mother?"

"Yes."

"This is Doctor Blank up at Primary Children's Hospital. (pause) How quickly can you bring Olivia in?"

"Why, what's wrong?"

"We need to speak with you regarding Olivia's blood work. We'll probably be admitting her and possibly other things. We need you up here as soon as possible."

My stomach dropped. I was really scared. I had no idea what was going on and almost afraid to find out. I headed back up there for the third time in 40 hrs.

Again Olivia was subject to more testing, more doctors, more poking. They did an ultrasound on her and found a couple of puss pockets on her left hip. Then they tried to stick a needle in her hip to withdraw fluid from those pockets to do a culture, however she was just to little and they couldn't get anything. She was awake the whole time being a brave girl. She was so sick. I wished I could have endured all her pain so that she wasn't going through it. About 3 p.m the decided to do surgery.

My Grandma and Grandpa came up with their home teachers and placed their hands on her head. She received a blessing of healing. I have a strong testimony that blessings help those that need them, as long as it is God's will.

Olivia was taken into surgery, for about two hours she was gone. I could barely hold myself together. I waited while she woke up, then helped her with a Popsicle. They had to put her in quarantine room, with another child that had RSV. I barely slept all night. The next morning she woke up and was practically back to normal. We played all weekend in the hospital. She recovered quickly and was sent home. She had to have a pick line installed.

After she came back home, she had to receive strong antibiotics through IV for about 3 months. I was so happy to have her home, but sad to see a child learn medical procedures so well.

She had a Staphylococcal Infection.

To this day if she sees wrapping tape, she throws it away. Was really frustrated when I had foot surgery this last summer.

She is so special in my laugh and makes me laugh on a daily basis. I am so glad she is with us and is blossoming into such a beautiful little girl.

Exclaimations of Olivia

In the last month or so Olivia has really blossomed in her use of vocabulary. Yesterday, while driving home Johnathan and I were contemplating what to do with the 4 remaining children while we accompany Sabrina for her surgery. Andrew is my most worrisome child. He has high anxiety regarding this kind of situations, which can be troublesome for babysitters.

Rosie volunteered to watch the boys and Olivia, and reminded me that Andrew would be stressed out and being home with his toys would keep him busy. I mentioned though that if he went with Johnathan and I, that we could talk to him and ease his fears. Rosie said that she would be willing to talk to him if he got to worrying too badly.

Olivia then exclaimed : "NO! I will talk to him."

Andrew is so lucky to have so many loving and caring sisters!
